Yesterday Hannah and I picked up the second kitten after nine days at the Vet in the recovery unit. We have named him Felix, so now we have Cargo and Felix.

At first, Dr. Nghia had to do a few fluid treatments before Felix could get his body back in order. Also, Dr. Nghia had to watch the wounds for a couple more days since the last vet (a horrible vet) used dissolvable stitches. The stitches caused the wound to get infected and so the doctor had to clean the wound and give him antibiotic shots everyday for five days. Felix's wounds are healing tremendously well. You can actually see the largest cut rather clearly, though it is about 1/4th the size it was in the beginning.
Hannah and I were unable to observe the first few hours of the introduction between Cargo and Felix. We spent about 45 minutes with them then the bonds and shackles of labor forced us to leave for a couple hours. That night Felix was very timid. He found the smallest spaces to squeeze into and stay. He was also extremely intimidated by Cargo's urge to play. Cargo would hop around him like the antelope he is, while Felix would just crouch down and scoot back slowly. The night ended with me attempting to figure out what kind of food Felix would eat (because the clinic said he loves hard food...which I think is a bunch of b.s.) and trying to figure out if he is litter trained.

Luckily, I was able to spend the morning with both of the kittens. I saw a miraculous change in Felix as he started to gain more confidence of the environment. Right away he began to play with Cargo. When given complete mobile freedom instead of holding them, both kittens are very cautious when they get close to each other. They were very playful with their swats and pounces. They jump around, tackle each other and follow each other for hours.

It has been a pretty smooth introduction between the both of them. Other than some moments in which I think they are actually trying to kill each other, I have recognized no aggression between them. They use the skills they are best at to their advantage when playing around. Cargo can jump higher and run a bit faster right now. Felix can absolutely climb much better and truly he has much more agility in his motions. Cargo is almost always shocked with the speed of Felix's pounces. By the time he attempts to block the pounce, Felix already has his paws around his neck and his teeth at Cargo's head or his neck. I don't question for a second now about whether it was the right choice in getting two kittens or just one. It is much more relieving for me to be able to sit back and watch them play. When Cargo was alone he would constantly nibble at my toes or try to attack my feet as I would walk around the apartment. I would feel the guilt weighing heavily that I wasn't playing with him. I wanted to finish this introduction with two notes. Firstly, when Felix was not really used to the environment, Cargo would just follow him around the entire time attempting to play around. It was hysterical to watch. The last note is about this picture below. Hannah told me it reminded her a lot of The Lion King. Cargo has his hand in the air, ready to strike Felix down in his vulnerable position.
